Longue-Vue is a garden that places two periods and two spaces in perspective: both here and there, both now and then. Through a unique display and a visit that is both playful and poetic, explore the story of a Protestant family forced to leave southern France in the 18th century for Cape Colony in South Africa.

While strolling through this Mediterranean container garden, the visitor will taste the gentle way of life of those who stayed behind. At the centre of the space, an enclosed structure inspires curiosity.

By looking through the cracks in the fence as if through a telescope, the visitor is transported to the Cape landscape and the harsh existence of its early settlers.

Scattered throughout the garden, a series of letters and documents link the two spaces. Each visitor can look at, interpret and understand the history of this exile.

Eco-friendly features

Suppliers are chosen on the basis of their geographical proximity to the production site. (Nursery, quarry, carpentry...)

The plants selected are adapted to the environment and are water efficient.

The creators are exploring the potential for a partnership between a nursery in South Africa and the PACA region in order to produce new, non-invasive plants adapted to climate change. This project will allow the company to test and diversify the range of adapted plants available in the Alpes Maritimes.

The whole garden is accessible to persons with reduced mobility (slope, width of path adapted). All the plants and materials will be either reused or recycled.
