In perfumery, the absolute is a very concentrated extract of the plant. The Absolute, for example, of jasmine or rose, is part of the composition of many perfumes, in which it forms the "background notes".
In the Absolute, it is an artist's garden...
Grasse has long been a land of perfumes, such that it has become the world capital of perfumes. Its inhabitants, its industry, its heritage, its customs are anchored in and completely oriented towards scents ... plant scents ... the culture of olfactory art.
These plant scents are valued by women and men, the essence of whose work is to single out these olfactory flavours. The artists then use a tool which allows them to put these raw materials together to develop the Perfume.
This creative tool is called an organ, but not just any organ: a Perfume Organ. This is what this garden expresses, made up of planted pipes with a sample of the plants most used in the world of perfumery in Grasse. A true sculpture, this installation is in its rightful place in the Musée International de la Parfumerie, a setting within a setting.
Sage, jasmine, iris, May rose, violet, tuberose, verbena, strawflower, geranium, basil, cypress, tarragon, etc., adorn this organ of scents which are sustainably planted in our area.
"As an artist, living in Grasse for the last 20 years, my artistic research has been mainly based on TREES, through several practices such as marquetry, painting, sculpture and installation. I have put this one on display using wood, leaves and a multitude of industrial materials.
This installation in conjunction with the Green Spaces Department of the City of Grasse illuminates my interest in heritage related to Perfumery.
This 'Perfume Organ' is my chance to improve my knowledge of these exceptional plants which adorn this 'Artist's Garden. " Laurent-Emmanuel Briffaud
