THE GARDEN

On the shores of the Mediterranean, mankind has settled: since the 19th century, the Côte d’Azur has been a haven for the Russian community and its artists.

From the entrance to the garden, visitors are transported to the tundra and the taiga, then are swallowed up by a giant travel trunk, the symbol of this migration. It opens onto the inner world of memory, as into the privacy of the cranium. The trunk reproduces a piece of artistic history as a memory of the works of Marc Chagall, Guillaume Apollinaire, Romain Gary, Anna Marly, Serge Diaghilev and other Russian artists who made their mark on the region.

A wall of the trunk has fallen and has become a terrace, opening onto the Mediterranean, with its exotic garden and garrigue. A variety of little trunks are arranged like Russian dolls and offer visitors a new walk among the plants and memories.

The garden becomes a metaphor of hybridisation between art and nature, between Russia and the Mediterranean.
