THE SHYNESS OF THE PINE

The garden was designed by a group of six students in their first year of a master's degree at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles-Marseille : Bousquet Marilou, Cavanié Antoine, Gontier Léo, Herrou Lisa, Lecrenay Valentine et Wolff Picard Oscar.

A symbol of the city, the umbrella pine is a key element of the landscape of Juan-les-Pins, and more broadly of the region. Aging in the cities, its regeneration depends on Man. How can we be more conscious of its ephemeral presence?

In tomorrow's society, we will all be gardeners. The city will become our garden, and each of us will contribute to this audacious perspective of a life in harmony with plants. The designers invite the inhabitants to make this garden a place of life, in harmony with the pine trees, by incorporating several elements reminiscent of the furniture in a house.

A series of slopes planted with sensory species typical of the garrigues create hollows, like cocoons. They contain seats where visitors can sit and observe the pine from all angles, including its shyness... Their crowns approach but do not touch, forming labyrinths of light in the canopy. Shy is the enigmatic condition that we call the pine forest of Juan-les-Pins the most unusual example in France. This garden is an invitation to explore and feel the shyness of the pine.

In this way, like a nest, the pine tree will structure different intimate or shared moments of contemplation of the tree. Additionally, there is a "black box" with only the entrance and the roof as an opening, whose purpose is to intrigue and invite us to observe, by looking up, the organic curves presented by the canopy.

On the border between the pine forest and the coast, this garden becomes a real bubble of relaxation and contemplation, an invitation to question our relationship with time.
