45 DEGREES

by Victoria MAGNANO & Kévin RODALLEC (France)

The garden, '45 Degrees' is an invitation to explore the “garigue and maquis” scrubland landscape. A sloping capsule welcomes visitors and leads them on a sensory journey through a succession of plant environments. Colourful patches and numerous scents stimulate the senses throughout the visit. The garden is decorated with a sparkling chair, insect hotels and fun and educational panels to inform and raise awareness of walkers.

The route through the garden depends on the individual, however, a coloured tunnel with geometric shapes draws the eye to a main route made of sawdust, leading the visitor to traverse the entire length of the space. This path crosses a 45° sloping wooden decking that allows the visitor to explore this landscape in a crosswise manner.

At the end of this experience, the visitor encounters a hidden door behind a mirror, opening onto the sea and its infinite vistas. Numerous interplays of frames, transparency, light and shadow break with traditional perspectives. You will not be disappointed!

Eco-friendly features

The '45 Degrees' garden is designed with an eco-friendly philosophy.

The creative team has selected a Mediterranean plant palette, where the plants chosen are water-efficient and promote biodiversity and the local plant heritage. The public will be made aware of this through the presence of information panels.

Organic mulching helps with the environmental management of the space and the health of the plants The wood used is untreated and uses French species. Regional suppliers are also chosen, as well as those who have committed to sustainability.

Eco-friendly paints are used, made mainly of natural materials, and waste from other activities is recyclable, for example sawdust for the pathway, which can be reused as mulch later on.

Finally, the construction techniques do not use any chemical products that are physically harmful to the environment At the end of the festival, project leaders (schools, associations) will be able to collect the plants and materials to give them a second life.
