Charles Ange Ginésy

Président of the Alpes-Maritimes département

Located along the Mediterranean, the Alpes-Maritimes département is proud to own world famous tourist treasures.

Its steep landscapes, near the coastline, offer majestic panoramas where "Belle Epoque" palaces and lush gardens enhance each other.

To celebrate this priceless heritage, and following the huge success of the first edition initiated by Eric Ciotti, Member of Parliament, President of the Finance Committee, the Département des Alpes-Maritimes has decided to renew the "Côte d'Azur Gardens Festival" for a second edition from March 30th to April 28th, 2019.

Marina Picasso honours us by chairing the jury and being the godmother of the festival. The 2019 "Mediterranean Dreams" theme is an invitation to travel around the Mediterranean in the world of gardens, and to discover the exceptional history and heritage of the Côte d'Azur.

The 2019 edition is full of surprises, 23 access free gardens are offered to visitors. You will discover a contest of 15 landscape creations designed by national and international teams, spread over 5 iconic municipalities of the département: Antibes, Cannes, Grasse, Menton and Nice, each one hosting 3 landscaping creations. The best creations will receive 4 prizes: the Jury Prize, chaired by the Festival's godmother, the "GREEN Deal" prize for the most ecological garden, the press prize and the prize for professionals.

For the dream to continue, 8 out-of-competition “pop-up” ephemeral gardens are to be discovered in the 5 municipalities taking part in the competition, as well as in Monaco. Throughout the month of April, the département will follow the rhythm of the festival with more than 350 events provided by the municipalities and many partners. The 2019 edition of the Côte d'Azur Gardens Festival invites you to live a dream come true, a dreamlike experience, on the Mediterranean shores, along the perfumed paths of the Côte d'Azur.

The second edition of the Côte d'Azur Gardens Festival, on the "Mediterranean Dreams" theme, will take place from March 30th to April 28th, 2019.

Marina Picasso, the successor to Julie Depardieu, will share her passion for garden art along with Jean Mus, the Mediterranean gardens landscape gardener.

To crown this ambition to reveal the outstanding tourist potential of our gardens while offering to the general public a new key cultural event, the Département des Alpes-Maritimes has created in 2017 a festival entirely dedicated to the gardens of the Côte d'Azur.

The general public will discover about 15 creations on Cannes, Grasse, Antibes, Nice and Menton designed by international landscapers.

He will be able to take part in the numerous events throughout the month of April on all the cities and villages of the Côte d'Azur.

A theme dedicated to the tourist discovery of the Côte d'Azur.

This event gives the opportunity to highlight, throughout the year, the 75 most beautiful gardens open to the public, through tours and tourist stays to fully immerse themselves in these outstanding sites; but also to meet perfume flowers growers and horticulturists whose know-how has just been classified by Unesco as Intangible Heritage of Humanity; not to mention other uses for gastronomy and the festivities that punctuate the Riviera agenda from January to December.

Increase tourist attendance on shoulder seasons.

Through this ambitious event, we hope to let more than 400,000 visitors discover this wonderful protected natural heritage. The first edition saw double-digit growth in tourist attendance in April 2017.

It is an opportunity for all our tourism professionals to start a creative, festive season and to express their common sharing values.

Welcome to the Côte d'Azur France!

The Mediterranean Basin has always managed to tame and play with the sons of Eole, these generous, curious and sometimes insolent winds, but who love to carry the perfumes of civilisations that surround the Mediterranean. This Sea from where spring dreams, perfumes of a thousand and one adventures, perfumes of Paradise ... a sea that arouses the desire to know, to be reborn. This desire to discover dates back to the dawn of time, to ancient epics; it is the source of a thousand escapes, dreams of conquest when navigators embark with their crew to another world. It offers an invitation to Gardeners to leave their home port, to run aground on the shores of unknown lands, uncertain destinations where Anything is possible.

This is the aim of the second Côte d'Azur Gardens Festival. It will be, I hope, a festival of seduction in shades of Blue mixed with Gold, carried by the "Winds" of creativity and the enthusiasm of the participants. Leaving, making the trip with the four elements to the discovery of our own sensitivity, to the discovery of a time, our Time. For this event, we can see how much the gardener can and must express himself, become an ambassador for beauty and, through his realisation, make the moment a Present…

What a magnificent opportunity as this one: to offer a permanent event tinged with the colours of well-being, poetry, to sketch an art of living. It is in this sense, with the complicity of generous, talented and somewhat crazy candidates, that we wish to share, this new festival adventure, of the Gardens’ great life…
